More About Art Pape


Arthur E. Pape, Principal of The Pape Law Firm, counsels developers and investors in structuring transactions in connection with the development, financing, construction, leasing, operation and disposition of large office buildings, shopping centers, hotels, stadiums and multiuse projects and in the acquisition and disposition of real estate portfolios. He is very experienced in most related parts of the real estate industry including refinancings and workouts, limited liability company, partnership and other joint venture creation and restructuring, large lease transactions, and representing owners and contractors in negotiating and documenting construction contracts. In addition, Mr. Pape counsels clients on real estate related insurance matters, and has served as an expert witness on several occasions.

In addition to his law firm practice, he has been a principal in a small real estate development company and real estate counsel in the law division of a money center national bank. He has been a director of financial institutions, investment companies and manufacturers as well as civic and charitable organizations. He was elected to the American College of Real Estate Lawyers in 1986 where he founded and was the first chairman of the Insurance Committee.

He has been listed in Best Lawyers in America from 1997 to present and in Who's Who Legal, The International Who's Who of Business Lawyers – 2005 to present. He has been an Illinois Super Lawyers since 2005 when he was selected as one of the Top 100 Super Lawyers in Illinois for two consecutive years. Mr. Pape is also a member of Lambda Alpha International, an honorary land economics society. He has written and lectured extensively on topics of interest to real estate lawyers, including insurance law and insurance certificates. He is an Adjunct Professor in The John Marshall Law School's Masters of Real Estate Law Program where he teaches a course on insurance as it relates to real estate transactions. Arthur Pape received his BA from the University of Pittsburgh in 1963 and his LLB from Harvard Law School in 1965.
